ABOUT

“AI” is many different things, but the elephant in the classroom today is usually generative AI (gen AI), a technology built on large language models (LLMs) and implemented in the form of chatbots such as ChatGPT.

As tech companies and investors push hard for the integration of these tools into the curriculum, their goal is a new generation of users. By contrast, DESIGN JUSTICE LABS is committed to resources and collaborations that situate students as other community stakeholders as critical thinkers, active learners, and citizens–able to judge for themselves when, how, or whether to use specific technologies for certain purposes.

In addition to our Student Guide and living document, we publish peer-reviewed student projects and educator resources that take inspiration from design justice principles as formulated by the Design Justice Network

We welcome you to share and adapt these resources for your own teaching, learning, and community outreach.

We also welcome you to submit your own work and share your ideas. To get in touch, email us at criticalai@sas.rutgers.edu
